Mentorship Program

GradWIC's department-wide graduate mentorship program has been active and growing since 2017. Our goal is to build a tighter community within our department, and this program is for all members of our graduate community, regardless of identity.

Mentors will get coffee with their mentees, and answer their questions about grad life, advisor relationships, research, and whatever else they need (as long as you're comfortable with it). There are a few requirements for signing up (like grabbing coffee each month, a kickoff event, and large quarterly event), but it's all covered by GradWIC and is bound to be a good time!

We are extremely grateful to NCWIT, ACM-W, and Google.org for the NCWIT Student Seed Fund Award that made this program happen. We are also grateful to the CSE Department at UCSD for helping us keep it going!

Sponsorship

We like to partner with companies in industry to help our members learn about future career opportunities and foster industry presence at UCSD. Do you want to help GradWIC and show your support for tomorrow's women in tech? We are looking for donations to support our events and initiatives, including sending our students to Grace Hopper.

We have several options for ways you can work with us for the school year, including different types of events we can hold, ways to get your company name out to our members, and general donations. All donations to GradWIC are tax deductible. Feel free to contact us if you have any other ideas for ways we can build a relationship! Click the buttons below for more information.

We hold general body meetings every quarter. These give us a chance to catch up, discuss ideas for future events and opportunities, and share stories and advice.

  • SOCIAL GATHERINGS

We put on a variety of social events to help bond as a community. Events include movie outings, barbecues, and lunches with faculty.

  • NETWORKING EVENTS

We host networking events and panel discussions in order to foster professional development. Past topics include unconscious bias in the workplace, and transitioning into industry.

  • Coffee Chats

During the school year, we bring in speakers from industry and academia to talk about their work and share their experience in the workplace.

  • Conference Scholarships

Every year we provide scholarships to support students to attend diversity conferences such as the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing and the CMD-IT/ACM Richard Tapia Conference.
